6. Plan and Develop Pre-Production Materials (U3 P3:M2)

P3: Develop pre-production materials for an original media product
M2: Legal and ethical issues are identified and resolved for the planned production

Gantt Chart:
Used in project management, a Gantt chart provides a graphical illustration of a schedule that helps to plan, coordinate, and track specific tasks in a project. This will help me keep track of what part of the project I am working on, and whether I am on track or not. It will also allow me to know how much more work I need to do until the project is completed.

Model Release Form:
model release, known in similar contexts as a liability waiver, is a legal release typically signed by the subject of a photograph granting permission to publish the photograph in one form or another. This is means that no legal action can taken against me, and once the photos are taken I can publish them on my from cover for issue 1. If my model was under the age of 18 then it would be ethical and legal to get their legal guardian/parent to sign the form as they can not legally sign for themselves and they my not understand the contract.

Location Release Form:
A binding contract between the photographer and the owner of the private property the shoot is to be taken on. By signing the release, the owner of the property can not sue for specific types of claims. This was important to me as it meant I could use the location I wanted to take my photos of my model without worrying about braking any laws. In the end, as the photos were taken in a public area this was not needed for the model shoot.

Risk Assessment:
A risk assessment must be taken and made for on the set and off the set (within reason) so that no legal action can be taken by the staff or models on set. It means that you look at the set and assess any potential risks which can cause damage or an accident and you make sure you know ways to make sure these do not happen.

Location Recce:
This refers to visiting to a location before the shoot to determine its suitability for shooting, including access to necessary facilities and assessment of any potential lighting or sound issues, and is closely related to location. It is ethcial if the director and photographer go to the location first in advance so that they do not make all staff and models come out to the location to find that it will not work. It also allows you to create your risk assessment.

MoodBoard:
An arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc. intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept. The moodboard helped me to pick the colour scheme and fontd that I will use for the magazine. as well as this it helps to give a better feel of what you want to portray with the magazine in the development phase as it makes it easier to make decions on the magazine.

Layouts, Fonts, Colour Scheme:
Layouts:
This would an important part in the intial look of the magazine. Considering the good feedback I got off the show prints, it allowed me to move forward and focus on other areas that needed strengthing. It is mature look as we wanted to give off the feel of a high end magazine for a good price.
Fonts:
The fonts were picked off of the feel the music gives off. This helped to represent to visual styles I wanted to give off and appeal to. The ones selected work well together and are final as they look good on the front cover. The MastHead and the CoverLine have been taken from www.dafont.com, so to exterminate any chances of copyright I messaged the creators of the font and had to settle at a small fee to have permission to use the fonts in the magazines.

Colour Scheme:
The colour scheme is black, gold and white. The gold represents the underlying genre of bling and jewellery and the black represents the hood, dark nature of the genre. The main feature colours will most likely be black or white (more likely to be black) as they are both easy to read depending on the back round colours, and they are the easiest to read on most other colours.

Legal and ethical issues:

Ethical
We will promote our online subscription so that we aim to not need to print and use paper so much. As well as this, whilst we have looked at using biodegradable paper, this would be a waste as if you buy the edition in paper you may have the aim of keeping the issues and collecting them. Therefore, if the paper was biodegradable then this would not be possible.

Legal issues
The easy legal issues to deal with is making sure that that all the content in the magazine is original, same for the pictures used. I also can not make any statements that i can not back and that are not true. Opinions are fine but in the article you can not make a definitive statement that is not factually true.

4. Pitching My Ideas (U21 P4:M3)

My Pitch: U21: Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions Unit 3 Final Product - Harrison Leighton from Harrison_01 Notes: Final Presentation: Feedback: The font creates the E at the end of the masthead to look like it is detached from the rest of the masthead. To get around this, on photoshop add the E in a separate text box and move to look like they are part of the same word. The Gold needs to have a shine to it, the Gold disappears into the grey background. Could have a box round it, or could have a shadow round the masthead. Make sure you pass the accessibility test online, so the tone of the colours aren't too similar. Fonts - Quite similar, are they too similar. Potential change of Maximum Impact. Although arial is easy to read, it is very common. From the feedback given from the client, I know that I need to change the colour of my  masthead  and Gold. I can do this by updating the the colours that make...

8. Post-production techniques and processes (U3 P5)

Learning Outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief. Front Cover and Double Page Spread Final: Front Cover Process: Double Page Spread Process: My final change was switching round the title colours so that the long box was in Gold and the small boxes were blue like the front cover. I switched them round initially to see if it would work, but after having the FC and DPS next to each other it didn't look right. Review: From "Fader" magazine I believe that I successfully have created a magazine front cover and double page spread that will attract the audience that I am aiming for. I also feel like I met the brief in creating and developing original content that will attract for the North London region. The front cover is attractive and eye catching and the point of this magazine was to take something that isn't as widely listened to and...

1. Generating Ideas (P1:U21, M1:U21)

Generating Ideas Learning outcome (U21): Be able to generate ideas for an original media product based on a client brief. For my music magazine it is clear that there are some points that we must follow. These are making sure that our content is original, the magazine must be able to be produced online and in paper form based on the music scene in North London. For the pitch will we have to present and show case an early draft for the first edition of the magazine, show casing a front cover and a double page spread. It would help with the pitch if we are able to show how our ideas have developed and changed as we have moved forward with the project showcasing pictures and written notes as evidence of progression and research around the topic. Requirements: Music magazine specifically for North London (Explicit) Front page and double spread (Explicit) Showcase talent and venue for North London (Implicit) Produce Original content (Explicit) Magazine based on music (Ope...
